The conundrum

The conundrum of influencing our legislators is really bothering me and I imagine many others.  We have legally registered lobbyists who are spokespersons for various points of view.  That's better than not having them registered but they can certainly influence legislation that is contrary to the common good.  For example, Medicare cannot, by law, get discounted prices from drug companies.  This is one of the reasons some prescription drugs are cheaper in Canada than in the U.S.  Apparently 'we the people' have less influence then lobbyists.  Grrrr!

Oh for the good old days!

My wife and I were watching an old movie, "Trading Places", with Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy.  One of the scenes is a wild party given by the Eddie Murphy character.  A couple of the women pull off their tops while dancing - gratuitous boobie it's true.  We both noted at the same instant that this movie was made before boob jobs were a requirement for a job in Hollywood.  What happened?  Another example of our screwed up world.

What happened?

I was at breakfast the other day when a woman and her two teen aged children entered.  The kids were older teens, maybe 16 & 17, a boy and a girl.  The boy was wearing a tee shirt and shorts.  The girl had a tight shirt with quite a lot of cleavage showing and long pants.  When did teen aged girls get cleavage?  Where was I?  When I grew up we knew theoretically that girls grew into women and women had breasts but to actually show their cleavage?  No way.  Maybe Saturday night after a party you might get a private viewing but....  What happened?

Inanities

I'm starting a new blog - inanities-by-don - to share some of the random, weird thoughts that bounce around it the rock I call my head.  Maybe some will be of interest; maybe you'll be convinced I should be locked up.  Regardless, here we go!

Shopping

I went shopping with my wife the other day.  As I followed her around I imagine I looked like a beaten dog following it's master.  Make that a tired beaten dog.  As we walked through one of the stores, I saw another guy, gray mustache, following a much younger woman.  Same look.  Yep, that's how I'd look if I were shopping with my daughter.  No way that was his 'trophy wife'.
